Lab 5 – Working with Azure Storage Account Geo-Replication (RA-GRS)
In this hands-on Azure lab, we explore how Azure Storage keeps your data safe even when an entire region goes down.
You’ll learn how to create a Storage Account, upload blobs, enable Read-Access Geo-Redundant Storage (RA-GRS) replication, and generate secure SAS links for controlled sharing.
By the end of this lab, you’ll understand how Azure automatically replicates data between Canada Central and Canada East for maximum durability and availability.
What You’ll Learn
Create and configure a Storage Account in the Azure Portal
Upload and manage blob objects
Enable Blob Versioning to recover deleted or changed data
Configure RA-GRS Geo-Replication
Generate and test SAS (Shared Access Signature) URLs
Verify replication health across regions
Architecture
Primary Region: Canada Central
Secondary Region: Canada East
Replication Type: RA-GRS (Read-Access Geo-Redundant Storage)
Services Used: Azure Storage Account, Blob Containers, SAS, Versioning
Real-World Example
Imagine running a media company in Toronto — your videos, backups, or archives are safely mirrored in Quebec City through Azure’s geo-replication.
Even if one region fails, your files stay accessible in the other. That’s enterprise-grade durability, simplified.
