The S&P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 are two of the most popular US stock indexes. Choosing where to invest is an important decision and it’s good to be informed on how the indexes differ.

The S&P 500 Index and Nasdaq 100 are managed in similar ways. The major difference is the strategy used to select companies included in each index.

02:41 Sector Breakdown
The strategies result in a different exposure to different sectors of the US economy. The Nasdaq 100 is much more concentrated in a couple sectors, while the S&P is more broadly diversified. We look at the breakdown.

Both indexes are mostly all large cap companies. The Nasdaq 100 being more heavily skewed towards growth companies instead. The S&P 500 includes more value companies.
