Almost all of we have heard the name of hornbill bird, yes, the famous festival of Nagaland is named after that bird , Hornbill Festival. 18 nations participate in this festival. This time our destination was Nagaland's Hornbill Festival.
The seven states of North-East India, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal, Tripura, Assam and Nagaland are known as seven sister states. Nagaland, a state of seven sisters, is called a state of festivals. The Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is called the Festival of Festivals. The Hornbill Festival lasts for 10 days from 1st December to 10th December. Hornbill Festival starts from Kisama village which is 12 kilometers away from the capital city Kohima.
Kisama Village is also known as Heritage Village. This is the entry point. The crowd is worth watching. Many people from the country and abroad have come to see and enjoy this festival. The festival started with song, dance.
See, how the field looks like a green carpet. Colorful tribal costume. Some wear white, some green, some blue and some black. Like a flock of colorful butterflies flying over the green grass.
The road to the field is looking great. On one side is the pavilion, filled with spectators; The festival has started on the other side. Foggy weather, cold winter mood, colorful clothes.
Tribals never sing or dance alone. The group showcases their culture through performance.
'Kholi' is an unique musical instrument. Everyone is playing the same rhythm with small pieces of bamboo on the big bamboo log. There are many other bamboo musical instruments that they use, especially in this festival.
Now let's visit Morang. Morang is the house of the Naga people. Replicas of those houses were made long ago at the Hornbill Festival. Visitors flock to visit these houses throughout the year. The characteristics of each nation's house are different. But all the houses look similar in structure, mostly in Gothic style. The house of any nation can be understood by watching at the main door of the house. Someone has put a buffalo head on the head of the main door, someone has put a sword on it.
The attraction of this fair is no less for food lovers. Incidentally, most of them prefer non-vegetarian food. Hunting is their old hobby. A part of the festival is hunting. Different tribes have different food. But somewhere there is a similarity. Unity in diversity.
So far today. We will tell more stories about Nagaland and Hornbill Festival in the next episode...
