🎖️ Tribute to the Fallen | In Memory of 27 June 1988
On 27 June 1988, during the South African Border War, a combined FAPLA-Cuban force launched a sudden and devastating ground attack on the Calueque Water Scheme, near the border of South West Africa (Namibia) and Angola.
Shortly after, MiG fighter jets unleashed a surprise aerial assault.
One of the last bombs dropped struck near a group of South African soldiers—young men who had briefly stepped out of their Buffel troop carrier to witness the unfolding chaos. In a moment, twelve of them were taken from this world.
They were more than soldiers. They were sons, brothers, leaders, and friends. Their bravery, their sacrifice, and their names must never fade.
Let us remember the South African troops who gave their lives that day:
• Lt. N. Tucker (23) – 8 SAI Battalion
• 2nd Lt. M. Meiring (19) – 8 SAI Battalion
• Cpl. E.P. Koorts (19) – 8 SAI Battalion
• L/Cpl. J.R.G. Holder (19) – 8 SAI Battalion
• L/Cpl. W.A. Van Wyk (19) – 8 SAI Battalion
• Rfn. M.J. Van Heerden (20) – 8 SAI Battalion
• Rfn. T.B. Rudman (20) – 8 SAI Battalion
• Rfn. J.M.S. Venter (19) – 8 SAI Battalion
• Rfn. A.S.J. Els (19) – 8 SAI Battalion
• Rfn. P.R. Marx (19) – 8 SAI Battalion
• Trooper G. Scott (20) – South African Armoured Corps
• Trooper E. Erasmus (20) – South African Armoured Corps
This song, Brothers in Arms Forever, is dedicated to their memory—and to all who served with honor in that war.
We remember them not only in sorrow but in pride.
They were our brothers. They will always be with us.
🕊️ Rest in peace, warriors. You are not forgotten.
