The Kenmore 117 is a fantastic machine. Here’s a video on how to thread it. :)
One thing not mentioned in the video is that the hand wheel on this machine turns clockwise (away from you) while sewing. The hand wheel on most machines turns counter clockwise (towards you), but the hand wheel on the Kenmore 117 turns away from you. Also, make sure you install your needle with the flat side facing the right. The long groove on the needle should face left, so the flat part of the shank must face right when it’s installed. Then you will thread the needle left-to-right (not front-to-back).
