The Geometry of Presence

"The Geometry of Presence' unfolds across San Diego, California — an exploration in infrared over the course of two weeks, following the rhythm of afternoon skies as monsoonal weather pressed in from the desert and mountains.

These 18 images, presented mostly in chronological order, find their coherence not in subject alone — buildings, bridges, and clouds — but in the way geometry and atmosphere reveal presence. Infrared rendering strips away the familiar, leaving stark skies, luminous foliage, and structures that feel both monumental and impermanent.

To view them fully is to lower the shield — to set aside defenses long enough to encounter the mystery that infrared light discloses.

What emerges is not documentation but resonance: a dialogue between Brutalist concrete, modern glass, and the fleeting architecture of weather. The pacing, set to “Waiting for Nothing” by Lotus (Epidemic Sound), allows each image to linger, letting the eye and ear rest in stillness.

This project belongs to both of my creative homes — **Lower the Shield**, where reflection meets resilience, and **Sing to the Mountain Studio**, where images are offered as meditations on presence.

It closes with a single line that distills the journey:

“In the stillness of geometry, memory lingers like breath upon the sky.”
