How to find and fix manifold leaks on a classic mini.
Also what to watch out for when checking the parts.

Whenever I have to do tuning, I always check the manifold surface for any air leaks. It is critical to not have any air leaks along the intake manifold gasket as this will alter the air/fuel mixture.
This problem is most apparent at idle as the airflow through the carburettors is slow and therefore the small air leaks represent a large percentage of the airflow going into the engine.
Since the manifold leaks do not also carry fuel with them, the mixture goes lean and thus we need to compensate by adding more fuel.
However, when the airflow speeds up, the mixture can be too rich and cause engine damage.
