Meet Adwaita, the Aldabra giant tortoise who became a symbol of history and longevity. 🐢 With an estimated age of 255 years, Adwaita lived a life spanning centuries, witnessing incredible changes in the world from his serene enclosures.
Believed to have originated from Aldabra in the Seychelles, Adwaita was brought to India as part of Robert Clive’s estate after the Battle of Plassey in 1757. Later, he found a permanent home at the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata, where he lived from the 1870s until his death in 2006.
