1995. Pop Warner El Cajon Braves Jr Midgets - Regionals to Nationals

This is my third El Cajon Braves Pop Warner Cheerleader video. It shows the 1995 El Cajon Braves Junior Midget Division Cheerleaders’ routine at regionals, and the award ceremony afterward. They won the conference, then the regionals in Tucson, Arizona (not to be confused with the previous year’s regionals in Tucson which they also won). As you may know, 1st and 2nd place teams at each of the eight regional championships in the United States move on to the National Pop Warner Cheerleading Championships. I’ve included the regional awards ceremony in this video because the 1st and 2nd place winners move on to the National Championships at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. That’s a big deal. Anyone who has waited for the results, especially for something like this, knows how emotional a 1st place win would be. Carlsbad took 2nd place at the Western Regionals. El Cajon took 1st place. After El Cajon won at Regionals, the president of the Grossmont Cheerleading league (which lost to El Cajon in the conference competitions) arranged, with approval of the Grossmont’s league, to donate their remaining years’ funds to help our El Cajon Braves defray some of the costs of going to Nationals in Orlando. As I recall, it was a little over a thousand dollars - a wonderful and generous gesture. I remember the terrible bus ride to Tucson. Everyone was trying to get away from the bathroom smell in the back of the bus. Ugggh. More importantly, I remember how proud we were of the girls. They kept asking, “Are we really going to Walt Disney World? Are we really flying?” Some had never been on a plane. Let’s face it, were weren’t the richest cheer squad on the planet, so it was a legitimate question. But we found a way to make sure every girl on the squad went to the national competition and they were joined by many of the parents. I’ve included the routine at Walt Disney World. I don’t remember the outcome and we didn’t capture the award ceremony.
