A while back, I did a video blog on delayed echolalia. This time, I’m talking about immediate echolalia. When a child is repeating words or questions, this is known as #echolalia. While autism and repeating phrases are common, I still get many questions from confused parents about “why is my child repeating words,” and “what can I do about echolalia?” In today’s video blog, I’m covering autism echolalia signs, and two steps you can take to resolve autism echolalic speech.

If your client(s) or child echoes words, they may have echolalia. But it’s important to remember that if a child does have echolalia, then it’s not all doom and gloom. At least, the child is talking, and most of the time their pronunciation and articulation is good as well. What we need to try and do is direct that echolalia to become more functional, conversational, and use it to increase language.
