Should tango DJs stay behind the booth… or can they hit the floor too?
In this episode, we dive into a debate that comes up more often than you’d think: What’s the role of a tango DJ during a milonga? Is it okay for them to dance some tandas? Or does stepping away from the booth break the flow, the mood, or even the trust?
We discuss:
The expectations we place on tango DJs
How dancing (or not dancing) affects their relationship to the floor
Whether musical connection can come from both sides of the booth
This one’s for dancers, DJs, organizers—and anyone who’s ever glanced toward the booth mid-tanda and wondered, “Where’d the DJ go?”
💬 What’s your take? Should DJs dance—or stay put?
