Oral literature passed on from generation to generation, in story and song forms, are amongst the greatest treasures of Humankind. A unique worldview imparting universal wisdom is expressed through these oral traditions and ‘Khasi Beliefs’ are a prime example. They are beautifully preserved and shared through the sacred oral literature: Khanatang.

Our song is based on a sacred story in which Ka Mei Syiem Sngi (Mother Sun) flees to the cave, Krem Lamet Latang. It takes you into a world covered in Darkness, overflowing with sorrows and fear. Pleas are made to the Supreme, yet confusion spreads under the endless gloom. Emissaries are sent to make amends with Mother Sun but their vanity and conceit are fiercely refused.

Ultimately, it would be the humble Rooster, U Lymboit Lymbiang, who would bring back Light. Only Truth and Humility could bring back the Sun and restore the relationship with the Supreme One… the connection with Oneself…and the infinite Divine.

Oral forms and narratives offer a unique path into the inner depth and soul of Humanity. Our song is a journey into inner peace “The Khasi Way”.
