The moon is out as The Bottled Imp takes an in-depth look at ‘Wolf’s Blood’ by E. L. Johnson. This is Book 1 of The Witch Hunter Tales and was first published by Azure Spider in 2019.

This is E. L. Johnson’s debut fantasy novel and is also Book 1 in The Witch Hunter Tales. The books can be read in sequence or as stand alone novels. As of this review, only the first book has been published.

I have to declare an interest here. The author attends my local writers’ group! Obviously I’m delighted she has managed to get a publishing deal and have her novel published but I’ve been as objective as I can be when reading and reviewing the book.

I do remember, over the years, Erin reading out parts of ‘Wolf’s Blood’ and being impressed by her determination to finish it and also do copious amounts of re-writes in order to improve it. So it is with great statifaction that ‘Wolf’s Blood’ has made it out of the slush pile and into the bookshops.

The story revolves around Harold Eastman, who is a witch hunter, hired by the church to seek out practitioners of the devil. But like those he hunts, Harold has a secret he’s desperate to hide. Tasked with finding the cause behind a boy’s bewitched member, Harold is lured to a quiet Hertfordshire village. Harold and his companions discover that mischief is afoot, and the tales of witchcraft and devilry might not be rumours after all…
