【概要】怪獣映画の「その後の日本」を描いた、ポスト3.11時代の作品。
国内外の様々な映画祭で上映され、PFF京都賞・福井映画祭グランプリ他受賞。

【物語】小笠原沖に突如出現した怪獣への攻撃が行われて１ヶ月後、地方の海岸に怪獣の遺骸が漂着する。政府からの補助金を目当てに怪獣の遺骸を建屋で囲もうとする町長や住民たちと、未知の怪獣の死に懸念を示し、計画に反対する学者。
政府、町制、学者。それぞれの思惑が絡み合いながら怪獣の保管施設の計画は着々と進んでいく…

【Synopsis】Godzilla stood as a metaphor for the perils of the Atomic Age, and the total destruction that can - and did - occur when Man meddles with powers it cannot fully control. In “Day of the Kaiju”, the film picks up in the aftermath of a giant monster attack, when the mortally wounded creature washes up on the beach of a small town following an assault from the Self-Defence Forces. Faced not with an impending attack, therefore, but rather with the daunting task of cleaning up such a cataclysmic mess, the monster here represents recent nuclear waste disasters and the resulting fallout. The resulting film tackles its subject with applaudable humour, imagination and pathos.
