3 different ways to capture analog glitch visuals

coming from the perspective of a GLITCH ARTIST. I am not a retro gamer, nor a dad trying to salvage footage from the family collection of degrading VHS tapes. I am just sharing my experience on the topic of digitizing your analog circuit bends and other analog video art so you can make your projects look better when you share them on youtube and social media. Over the past few years I have projected live analog visuals at shows and made analog style music videos for clients, so I have most definitely figured out a few ways that work for me. Keep in mind this is some super underground stuff ;)

there are three different approaches that I take: rescanning a CRT (or other kind) of TV screen, capturing using an upscaler + a USB capture card, and filming projected analog visuals. I have provided links to relevant examples from my own growing body of work in addition to timestamps.

this is just simply pointing a digital camera at a CRT or other monitor that has analog input and hitting record.

@Tachyons + does many rescans. He is a great source in general for opening your third eye if you've never been introduced to the analog visual rabbit hole. Also is one of the many artists who makes circuit bent devices.




== CAPTURE CARDS (9:56) ==
about a million different ways to do this. you can just get a cheap analog video capture "dongle" (11:18), or you can try to step it up by getting an upscaler to separately convert your analog signal into a 1080p HDMI stream and then capture it using a USB HDMI capture device (14:05).

== THE VERY UNDERRATED PROJECTOR METHOD (19:56) ==
like rescanning, except you have a nice big canvas to capture and pan around on, in addition to creating camera feedback unlike anything you've ever seen before. I'd like to think i am a pioneer at this ;)
