This is the third and final part of a video series devoted to the exploration of a narrow, volatile-rich pegmatite found within Pikes Peak Batholith, Colorado. It is a detailed mineral exploration within part of Pike National Forest historically known as the South Platte Pegmatite District. Areas that have garnered the greatest attention pertain to the contacts between igneous and metamorphic rock units.
After collecting a few final crystals, the emphasis of this segment switches to mapping the pegmatite and determining which regions are producing the fluorite. Armed with that knowledge, pathways are illuminated and followed to discover additional pockets within the same geologic context. I am excited to share many recent field explorations where the connection is further confirmed between volatile-rich pegmatites and igneous-metamorphic rock contacts (introduced in Part 2).
