Intro to Related Rates

Equations relate different quantities. After implicit differentiation, we can see how different rates - that is, different derivatives - are related as well. In our example we will investigate the rate of change of distance of two cars driving away from each perpendicularly.

The four major steps are:
1) Draw a diagram demonstrating the relationships
2) Identify an equation relating the quanities
3) Differentiate
4) Sub in values

Learning mathematics is best done by actually DOING mathematics. A video like this can only ever be a starting point. I might show you the basic ideas, definitions, formulas, and examples, but to truly master calculus means that you have to spend time - a lot of time! - sitting down and trying problems yourself, asking questions, and thinking about mathematics.
