Could The Pirate Bay be the next MegaUpload?
A high court in the U.K. has ruled that The Pirate Bay does indeed violate copyright laws on a large scale, according to the Guardian.
Major music groups have called for the site to be blocked to U.K. users allegedly trading movie and music files illegally.
Similar the website MegaUpload, which was shutdown earlier this year for similar alleged violations, The Pirate Bay is one of the world's biggest file-sharing sites, with 30 million users and millions of advertising dollars earned annually.
Courts could order U.K. Internet service providers to block the site from users as soon as June. Site co-founders Fredrik Neij, Peter Sunde, and Carl Lundstrom already forked over $6.4 million in fines in 2010, for allowing users to infringe copyright.
But crossing The Pirate Bay may have its consequences; the website's users may not be above firing digital cannons, should someone interfere with their booty.
