The Third Coast Water Seminars are a monthly research series hosted by Current in partnership with Argonne National Laboratory, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Chicago. The series is intended to share the latest research in water and water-related technologies/areas of need to spur collaboration and solve pressing water challenges.
This seminar titled, Water Quality Modeling and Optimization in Water Distribution Systems, was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Abokifa. He presented an overview of his group’s efforts to create novel algorithms for optimal control of water quality dynamics in water distribution systems under uncertainty in water demands, network characteristics, and modeling variables. He also presented his team’s recent work on optimizing the placement of water quality sensors to maximize network-wide observability of water quality indicators, and to enable model predictive water quality control in real-time.
