In June 1972 the Greater London Council offered newly-formed West Hampstead Housing Association a large house for short term use until it was needed for redevelopment. The house was perfect. Almost immediately the GLC withdrew the offer, as their records showed it had been used by the Radium Light Company to paint luminous clock faces with radioactive material and parts of the house and garden might be contaminated.
Anna Bowman, who had helped found the housing association, commissioned members of the London Film Makers' Co-op to document the National Radiological Protection Board's inspection of the house and garden, which would decide its fate. Anna and her son David Napier edited the almost 50-year old footage in 2021.
