On October 30, 2023, Free Russia Foundation, in collaboration with the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, hosted an event "The Plight of The Kremlin’s Political Prisoners" at the Victims of Communism Museum in Washington, DC.
This event provided a platform to amplify the voices of those who have been silenced, shedding light on the hardships they endure. An interactive exhibit was a central feature, presenting photos and quotes from prominent political prisoners held by the Kremlin.
The gathering was held in honor of the International Day of Political Prisoners and featured significant updates from a range of key figures:
Sergei Davidis, who heads the Political Prisoners Program at the Memorial Human Rights Center.
Evgenia Kara-Murza, the Advocacy Director at Free Russia Foundation and the spouse of political prisoner Vladimir Kara-Murza.
Mariana Katzarova, the UN Special Rapporteur on Russia.
MEP Andrius Kubilius, the Standing Rapporteur on Russia at the EU Parliament.
Karinna Moskalenko, a prominent human rights attorney in Russia and the Founder of the Center for International Protection.
Vadim Prokhorov, the legal counsel representing political prisoner Vladimir Kara-Murza.
Anna Veduta, Head of the U.S. division at the Anti-Corruption Foundation International.
Dr. Lee Edwards, the Founding Chairman of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, delivered the opening remarks, and the discussion was moderated by Natalia Arno, President of Free Russia Foundation.
