THE REEF | Underwater Short Film with Cinematographer Tom Park

The Reef is a story focused on scuba diving The Great Barrier Reef. The film explores the story of Underwater Cinematographer Tom Park in his quest to re-embrace the feeling of awe and wonder he felt on his first dive at age 12. Through Tom's story, The Reef showcases the glory of The Great Barrier Reef, and delves into the psyche of an avid scuba diver.

The Reef has been featured and won awards in a range of international film festivals. This was a project that was completed during lockdown in Australia, and was done so without filming any fresh footage, using only the content we had available on our hard drives (voice over excluded). For a film project that was completed without being able to plan, script, or shoot additional content for, myself and my team at Descent Productions are stoked with how well it turned out.

Tom Park is an accomplished underwater cinematographer and director, with over a decade of experience working in the underwater film industry. Tom has worked on a variety of projects, from short form docu-series to commercials and brand campaigns, for clients such as The National Gallery of Victoria, Tourism & Events Queensland, Destination NSW, The Smithsonian, and his work has been recognised with awards from film festivals around the world.

Tom is known for his technical expertise in working with underwater cameras and equipment, as well as his creative vision in capturing the beauty and uniqueness of the underwater world. He is passionate about ocean conservation and using his art to raise awareness about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
