Interview with Tory Kittles and Joe Wilson, THE EQUALIZER

The new #TheEqualizer starring #QueenLatifah and #ToryKittles takes the tried-and-true detective "man with specific skills saving people" formula and gives it a new twist in more ways than one. Aside from the change of having a woman as the person with the specific skills, the show also focuses on a number of issues facing the Black community that are often overlooked.

As the nation reels from another terrorist attack against Black people yet again, it's important to note how entertainment/art fields can also creatively tackle these situations and bring to light the history of covert and overt oppression and terrorizing of Black and other POC and marginalized groups. Through that, in part, education and change has been possible - as we've seen through the centuries.

In this interview, Tory and Joe talk about the dynamic in the show and the hope it brings to audiences. In one episode mentioned, Tory's character Dante confronts a dirty, racist cop (spoilers). In another, #JadaPinkettSmith guest stars as Jessie, a friend and professional thief Robyn hires to steal back a multi-million dollar personal portrait stolen from the family of victims of the Tulsa Massacre.

The season finale aired on Sunday. All episodes available @cbstv. The show has been renewed for a third and fourth season.

*Additionally, Tory also talks about working as a background actor (extra). I also worked as an extra on BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE, which was a lot of fun. Though I unfortunately didn't get to be on set while Steve Martin was there, Queen Latifah was a lot of fun and kept everyone in an upbeat mood, even when we were filming in the late evening/early morning after a full day!
