This lesson walks you through a practical n8n workflow designed to streamline email management by intelligently filtering incoming Gmail messages and drafting professional replies using AI. Whether you're handling personal or business emails, this workflow saves time and ensures you never miss an important response.
Workflow Overview
The attached n8n workflow, "My workflow 9," automates email processing with the following steps:

Gmail Trigger: Monitors your Gmail inbox every minute for new emails using Gmail OAuth2 credentials.
AI-Powered Filtering: Uses OpenAI's GPT-4o model to analyze email content (subject and body) and determine if it’s promotional or requires a reply (personal/business). The output is structured JSON with a needsReply boolean.
Conditional Logic: An "If" node routes emails based on the needsReply value—only emails needing a reply proceed.
AI-Drafted Reply: For emails requiring a response, GPT-4o generates a professional, business-casual reply starting with "Hello," and ending with "Best,". If context is unclear, it inserts "[YOUR_ANSWER_HERE]" for manual input.
Gmail Draft Creation: Creates a draft reply in Gmail, preserving the original thread and addressing the sender, with the AI-generated response formatted as HTML.

This workflow leverages n8n’s integration with Gmail and OpenAI, combining real-time email monitoring with AI-driven decision-making and response generation. It’s a perfect example of how AI can simplify repetitive tasks while maintaining a professional tone.
