Pastor Randall shares 5 ideas from Psalm 105. Throughout the Bible it is evident that the people of God recognized the faithfulness of God. Psalm 105 not only demonstrates that we need to remember God’s faithfulness in keeping His promises, but we also need to recognize He deserves our worship because He is faithful to do so.
As we review Psalm 105:1-11,42-45, highlight the ways God demonstrated His faithfulness to His people. What was the proper response of the people to God’s faithfulness? What is the best example of faithfulness you have witnessed in your lifetime? God deserves our worship because of His faithfulness to His people. We hope you will join us!
DIGGING DEEPER: Psalm 105 A Covenant-Faithfulness Psalm
Theme: God’s mighty acts in history remind His people to trust, worship, and obey Him.
1. Praise and Proclaim His Deeds. Psalm 105:1–2 “Give thanks to Adonai! Call on his name! Make his deeds known among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him! Talk about all his wonders.”(CJB)
Our gratitude must overflow into proclamation; making God’s name known beyond the church.
This opening is a call to active worship. Charles Spurgeon emphasizes the importance of public testimony: declaring God’s works is both an act of praise and a form of evangelism. Matthew Henry notes that praise is a natural response when one truly reflects on God’s mighty acts. Read 1 Peter 2:9 “You are… a people for God’s own possession, so that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”
2. Seek His Presence Continually. Psalm 105:3–4“Glory in his holy name; let those seeking Adonai have joyful hearts. Seek Adonai and his strength; always seek his presence.”
Worship is not only what we say about God—but a life lived seeking His will and presence.
This reflects an invitation to pursue relationship, not just rescue. John Stott often emphasized the idea that God’s people must not only admire His works but continually seek His face; His personal presence. The joy in seeking God becomes its own reward.
Read: Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
3. Remember His Wonders. Psalm 105:5–6.“Remember the wonders he has done, his signs and his spoken rulings. You descendants of Avraham his servant, you offspring of Ya‘akov, his chosen ones!”
Remembering God’s past faithfulness reinforces our present confidence in Him. Memory fuels faith. Matthew Henry reminds us that remembering what God has done strengthens present trust. The covenant people are urged to recall God's interventions, not just in their lifetime but across generations. Read: Hebrews 13:8. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
4. Trust in His Covenant Promises. Psalm 105:7–11“He is Adonai our God... He remembers his covenant forever… the covenant he made with Avraham… and confirmed to Ya‘akov as a law… ‘To you I will give the land of Kena‘an...’”
The God who kept His promises to Israel is the same God who secures our salvation in Christ. This section grounds praise in God’s unchanging covenant. Spurgeon wrote that the “foundation of our confidence is God’s immutable promise.” God’s faithfulness to Abraham and his descendants foreshadows our inclusion in Christ—not by physical descent but through faith. Read: Galatians 3:29. “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
5. God's Grace Sustains Worship and Obedience. Psalm 105:42–45 “For he remembered his holy promise to Avraham his servant… He brought out his people with joy… so that they would obey his laws and observe his teachings. Halleluyah!”
God saves not just from something, but for something; a life of joyful obedience in His presence. The end goal of redemption is not just rescue, but joyful obedience. John Calvin stressed that God’s grace motivates our holiness: “We obey not to earn His favor, but because we have received it.” Worship becomes a lifestyle of obedience grounded in grace.
Read: Ephesians 2:8–10. “For it is by grace you have been saved… to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Summary Thoughts: Psalm 105 calls us to remember, rejoice, and respond to the covenant faithfulness of God. His unchanging nature is the foundation of our worship and our mission today
