Dear dust, is an interactive audio-visual installation which questions authenticity of our experience: first-person, familiar as if our own, yet too distant, synthetic and alien just like observing someone else's reality of an online video covered with a thick layer of forgotten memories and dust. This dust, of course, is only a bunch of pixels, digital particles, medium artifacts floating on the screen.
Dear dust, encourages one to focus on this gap between our own reality and the reality of the reproduced hyper-reality.
Dust is lost and unnoticed, unrealised and uneventful.
Dust is billions of pixels that flash on the screen while our eyes are closed.
Dust is fibre and washing powder in an elderly launderette.
Dust is everywhere and everything.
Dust is nothing.
Dust is pure white noise.
The sound of Dear dust, is purely synthetic and intentionally minimal generated in real time from pure white noise. The soundtrack is a synthetic reconstruction of a real recording an uneventful and ordinary recording dominated by the recordist's off-screen breathing. Subconsciously the listener is tempted to synchronise their own breath to the sound of pulsating white noise. The longer the listener stays, the more it decelerates. Deceleration and gradual change of scale and proportions is unlimited thus, potentially, a single inhale or exhale could last hours or even days.
