Tying the CDC France Fly (My Favorite Euro Nymph)

In this video we go over how to tie my favorite variation of the now popular France Fly, the CDC France, as well as my thoughts on why the fly works and how to fish it.

The France fly was created by an angler on the US Youth Fly Fishing team while they were competing at a World Fly Fishing Championships in, you guessed it, France. The kids absolutely killed it on the France Fly and brought it back to the states. It quickly became popular in the US competitive fly fishing scene, winning competition sessions across the country.

I began fishing the CDC France at the 2018 Youth National Fly Fishing Championships in North Carolina after it was recommended to us by a local angler. We started off fishing the standard France with a CDC collar, but since we were crunched for time between sessions, I stopped adding the CDL tail and dubbing collar the original France Fly had. We did great with this variation, taking team gold, and it's been a staple in my box ever since.
