The Claro-Gnosca river suspension bridge, built in 1997, was designed and constructed by the Bellinzona and Riviera water treatment consortium. It spans the Ticino River and carries a relatively small supply pipe.

Otherwise, it is often and gladly used by pedestrians and cyclists. This suspension bridge is a frequently used shortcut, especially for the locals of the municipalities of Claro and Gnosa/Gorduno. Even though the bridge itself is somewhat cumbersome, it has been integrated into the existing floodplain landscape as well as possible.

The Claro-Gnosca river suspension bridge was built to be very stable. A single A-pylon supports the entire structure. This A-pylon, painted entirely in white and up to 75 cm thick, is also an impressive 29 meters high (above the walkway).

There are no suspension cables in the sense that they are found on a cable suspension bridge. Therefore, it is not a true suspension bridge but “only” a cable-stayed bridge. The walkway was not suspended from suspension cables with so-called hangers, but was connected directly to the pylon.

This A-pylon, in turn, stands in the middle of the bridge, which consists of two segments, each 61 meters long. This meant that additional anchoring or stabilization of the pylon was not necessary, as the forces are evenly distributed on both sides.
