A Funhouse Mirror? The Addams Family and the Failure of Netflix’s Wednesday

I watched Netflix's Wednesday and it was baffling! In my yearly foray into media analysis I examine the role of The Addams Family in "holding up a funhouse mirror to American Values", as their creator, Charles Addams, described. This funhouse mirror satirizing WASP family values has been the central defining feature of the Addams Family...until Netflix's Wednesday.

In comparing Wednesday from the two iconic 90s Addams Family films I show just how empty, and thematically confused Wednesday is. This highlights both how bad Wednesday is, and how great the 90s films are.
