Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego is aiming to become one of the few aquariums in the world that have had success breeding seadragons. Cousins to the seahorse, these incredible animals are found only in Southern Australia. Plans are underway to construct a special seadragon breeding lab at Birch Aquarium, where our aquarists will care for the animals and—with hope—unlock the mysteries of their secretive mating behavior, knowledge that may help conserve the animals in the wild.
