We pull in late to the San Josef Rec Site and subsequently get up late, and get on the trail late! Check out our site at the San Josef Campsite before we drive another 4 minutes to the Cape Scott Parking Lot. They have wheelbarrows to borrow if you're heading to San Josef Bay, and don't want to pack all your stuff!
I must say, there was a lot of mud and water on this trail, and it definitely slowed us down - a lot! Boardwalks were slippery, and although I made it in safely, I fell on my ass a few times on the way out! Be careful, it's a pretty remote place to get hurt!
Eric Lake was about an hour into the hike and had a dozen or so tent pads.
We both would have picked different footwear. My soles were too soft and my feet were super tired from having to conform to every rock and root ( and there were a lot of them)! Hers were just too short for all the mud and water.
By the time we made it to Fisherman's Creek we were definitely feeling the weight of the packs and starting to get a little frustrated at how slow progress was. In retrospect, we probably should have stopped more, and I should have removed my pack more often. Live and learn!
There's a nice little spot to have something to eat, or just chill for a bit, at Fisherman's Creek.
Stay tuned for part 2, as we finally get to Nel's Bight, set up our camp and spend 2 nights there!
