Carla Olson at Our Lips Unsealed - 9/17/22

'Welcome to rock 'n' roll storytelling at its best!

Musician, vocalist, and record producer, Carla Olson's recording career began as a member of the Textones, a band that started in Austin, Texas in the late 70s, with Kathy Valentine (later of the Go-Gos) then blossomed in the LA’s New Wave. The original incarnation of the band released an EP and a 45, then, a reconfigured Carla~led band released their debut album, "Midnight Mission," in 1984.

The album’s guests included Ry Cooder and Don Henley and came on the heels of Carla appearing in Bob Dylan’s first video “Sweetheart Like You.” The attendant publicity linked Carla with Dave Alvin and other local heroes as well as national artists like John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, and Bruce Springsteen - all of who were writing about political and social issues.

A second Textones album followed as well as a duet album with Gene Clark and then a series of recordings with Mick Taylor.

Most of Carla’s efforts the past 15 years has been as a record producer, one of very few female record producers. She has produced albums by a range of artists from guitar heroes Jake Andrews, Phil Upchurch, and Joe Louis Walker to Brazilian singer Ana Gazzola and keyboard legend Barry Goldberg.

A recent production project was "Americana Railroad" on BMG in which she produced nine tracks, including ones by Dave Alvin, Rocky Burnette, and James Intveld. Her latest release however, is "Night Comes Falling" a duet album with Stephen McCarthy that came out in November 2022.

Carla has also released a series of albums under the title "Have Harmony, Will Travel" which feature Peter Case, Richie Furay, Timothy B.Schmit, Robert Rex Waller Jr, John York and many more.
