"Making the most of rubbish is Worthing's magnificent obsession."

Jack Pizzey reports from the seaside town of Worthing, where a concerted effort is being made to salvage and reuse as much material as possible from incineration and landfill. It begins with members of the public separating their waste paper from other household waste, and extends to scavenging metal, glass and other valuable items from bin lorries, and goes as far as combining sewage and household waste to make landscaping material.

Might Worthing's waste disposal policies catch on in the rest of the UK?

Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, 8 April, 1970.
