PicoGUS, developed by Ian Scott, is a great, cheap utility card may be a MPU-401 emulation alternative for connecting an external MIDI sound modules like the Roland MT-32.
In addition to Gravis Ultrasound and MPU-401, it can also emulate the Tandy 3-voice (which great for "internal speaker only" older sierra titles), Soundblaster 2.0, Adlib, CMS (Game Blaster) and USB Gameport.
To be very clear, this demonstration ONLY uses the MPU-401 emulation on the PicoGUS. The dedicated hardware Soundblaster 16 is being used for the voice sample. This illustrates how nicely it can co-exist with other sound hardware.
This card packs a punch for ~$50. I definitely recommend this to anyone as an amazing utility for your vintage computer toolbelt!
