FDRS 2024 - The Fascial Network, Pain, and Lipedema and Dercum’s Disease

The connective tissue surrounding your muscles, nerves, and organs is called fascia. Research suggests the fascial network is critical to tackling chronic pain and immune dysfunction. Fascia is now known to be a source of pain secondary to nerve pain, as receptors are subjected to pathological changes. In this exciting lecture presented by an experienced therapist, the audience will begin to understand the superficial and deep fascia's role in fibrosis and pain in Lipedema and Dercums patients. Attendees will understand how inflammation and fibrosis affect the fascial network and contribute to pain.  

The audience will be informed about conservative and complementary methods of self-care and the role of aromatherapy in pain management.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: 

Understand what the fascia is and  the contribution of the fascial network to fascial fibrosis and pain in Dercum's Disease and Lipedema
Evaluate how the fascial network and deep fascia contributes to inflammation, nerve pain and immune dysfunction in the lipedema and dercums patients  
Explain complementary and alternative therapies to treating pain including myofascial release, aromatherapy and tools to promote circulation and break fascial adhesions, foam rollers
Understand that pain management and relief of pain in the connective tissue patient requires a multidisciplinary approach
Recognize the importance of lymph drainage and clinical aromatherapy in the treatment of inflammation and pain for patients
