These Houseplants Said “Low Maintenance” 😂 They Were Not

If you’ve ever bought a tropical houseplant because someone swore it was “easy care” and then immediately started questioning every life choice you’ve ever made, you are in the right place. Today I’m sharing my full Plug and Pray Plants list, basically the tropicals that were supposed to be simple but quietly plotted my downfall instead.
This video came from such a fun audience suggestion and honestly, I think we’ve all had at least one plant that looked cute and innocent in the shop then turned into a full time emotional commitment at home. Some of mine survived, a few betrayed me with zero hesitation, and a couple are still hanging on in ways I can only describe as theatrical.
In this episode, I talk through the plants that pushed my patience including , the deceptively fragile Ludisia discolor, and of course the infamous Ficus lyrata, the Fiddle Leaf Fig that has probably traumatised half the plant community. I also get into a few that surprised me in good ways and a couple I might actually try again even though I probably should know better by now.
You’ll also see some of the tropicals that brought unexpected chaos like Hoya krohniana, the ever agreeable until it isn’t Philodendron scandens, the gorgeous but moody Philodendron hastatum or Silver Sword, and even a few bromeliads that humbled me more than I expected. And yes, the ZZ plant makes an appearance because apparently even the “unkillable” plants like to keep us guessing.
Whether you collect rare tropical houseplants or you are just dipping your toe into the world of indoor jungles, I think you’ll get a kick out of this one. It’s a mix of cautionary tales, plant reality checks and a little bit of plant parent therapy. If you’ve ever had a plant that made you question your skills, your patience or your sanity, feel free to share it in the comments because honestly, it makes all of us feel better.
If you enjoy this kind of honest and slightly chaotic plant chat, make sure you subscribe to the channel so you don’t miss future episodes. It helps more than you’d think. Give the video a like too and share it with someone who has definitely been lied to by an “easy care” plant before.
Thanks for watching, supporting and laughing along with me. You can also find more plant chaos over on Instagram:
