Epic Fail: The Burl That Cracked and Took the Dream | Woodturning

A maple burl of extraordinary beauty was discovered in the forest on a damaged tree. Despite its rare shape and seemingly solid structure at first glance, it turned out to be brittle inside.

After cutting into the top spherical section, no interesting grain was found beneath the bark. The texture was ordinary, but with a weaker structure. The hope for hidden patterns proved to be ephemeral (illusory).

While hollowing, at a certain moment, it cracked, losing about one-third of its size. Following this incident, a moment of disappointment set in, and further finishing had to be abandoned. The fantastic prospect of hidden beauty remained only in dreams and fantasies.
