Off we go! After breakfast at the DUDICE TRAVEL LODGE it's just a few hundred meters walk to the GUI DEL MAR tour agency office to check-in for our Saturday morning group tour and we head down to the Alas-Asin port to ride an outrigger boat to CORREGIDOR ISLAND. We have the best guide, Edward, who has 25 years experience as a Corregidor Island tour guide. We are in good hands. After disembarking at Corregidor, we board the tram and tour the island with lunch at the mid-point of the tour (included). It's all here: GENERAL MACARTHUR'S MEMORIAL, FILIPINOS HEROES MEMORIAL, FORT DRUM, JAPANESE GARDEN OF PEACE, MALINTA TUNNEL, MIDDLESIDE BARRACKS, BATTERY WAY, BATTERY HEARN, MILE-LONG BARRACKS, TOPSIDE PARADE GROUNDS, 'ROCK FORCE' PARATROOPERS MEMORIAL, BROTHERS IN ARMS SCULPTURE, PACIFIC WAR MEMORIAL, And BATTERY CROCKETT. I tried to include as much pertinent info as possible and as much important commentary from our guide, Edward, as well because this presentation is essential to tell the story of Corregidor - as thousands of soldiers: American, Filipino, and Japanese died here. This is hallowed ground, a national shrine, and a major site in Filipino history. I only hope to do it justice.
