The Nisar satellite, jointly developed by Nasa and India's Isro was launched on July 30.
The satellite was launched onboard the GSLV F16 rocket from the Sriharikota space facility.
Nisar is the world’s first Earth satellite equipped with dual‑frequency SAR sensors (NASA’s L‑band and ISRO’s S‑band operating via a 12‑meter deployable reflector). It will scan nearly all of Earth’s land and ice surfaces every 12 days, in both day and night and under all conditions (rain, cloud, or darkness). The satellite will detect tiny surface shifts down to fractions of an inch, enabling detailed insights into ice sheet movements, ground deformation, vegetation dynamics, and coastal changes.
