Barry Island Smoothound

Vanlife is great, but there's only so much you can do to avoid the heat, with few fresh water options for the dogs, and temperatures forecast to soar to 38 degrees, we decided to head home to creature comforts.

Sarah had said all along she really wanted to visit the home of Gavin and Stacey, so as promised we set a course for Barry Island.

I Googled local fishing tackle shops, and came across Holton Road Angling. A quick phone call confirmed that they had fresh bait in stock, and after fending off seaguls and stuffing our faces with fish and chips we called to get some supplies. I can't recommend the place enough, there were a couple guys in the shop offering their advice on local marks.

Venue decided, Sarah dropped me off and away we go. Once down on the shore there's a couple guys fishing the exact spot I was told to head for, wearing Holton Toad hoodies, must be in the right spot then I guess!

I'll let the video show you the rest. But this is definitely one of those sessions that won't be forgotten for a while, that's for sure!!
