In this second installment, Steven Fryette demonstrates dynamic behavior modification using the Avid Eleven Rack connected to the new Fryette LXII Stereo Power Amplifier, the Fryette Valvulator I and a solid state reference power amplifier for comparison.
This is an exhaustive examination of the often misunderstood differences in behavior between solid state and tube power amplifiers, how they interact with speaker cabinets and what that means for guitar players trying to choose the right gear for studio recording and live performing environments.
Later, Steven explores the various ways modeling tools can be enhanced to produce more natural sounding and dynamically inspiring results.
Signal path is SM57 into a mixer (with a touch of room reverb), into the Line In of a Zoom Q3HD. Cab is Deliverance 4X12 with P50E speakers. Eleven Rack Big Blue rig with gain WAY down, mid, treble and presence down, cab/mic sims, compression and noise gate off.
Note: This track actually sounded better on an earlier take that got accidentally erased. We discovered later than the playing volume on this take was starting to slip into the red and at this volume the wall reflections are causing a bit of splash. So some of the harsh quality is the room, not the Eleven Rack. It's a learning process :)
