St George Island has a lot of history including one of the older lighthouses on the Florida Gulf Coast. Originally South St George Island, the tower toppled after Hurricane Wilma and was moved to the downtown area of North St George for easier tourist access. South St George Island is uninhabited and only accessible by boat.
I was fortunate to have visited the lighthouse at its original location with my family just a year before it was blown over.
Northeast of St George Island, Dog Island is smaller and privately owned with a small harbor and private airfield.
