Dyson Hot+Cool HP01 Motor Swap (Step-by-Step) — Fixing the Tricky Spring & Chassis Alignment

Replacing the main motor in a Dyson Hot+Cool HP01? This step-by-step guide shows how to safely remove the old motor, install the replacement, and handle the tricky spring & chassis reassembly so everything runs true.

In this video I walk you through a complete main motor swap on a Dyson Hot+Cool HP01 — from tools and disassembly to installing the new motor and reassembling the chassis (the spring and latch assembly is the trickiest part, so I spend extra time on that). If your HP01 is noisy, not spinning, or throwing error codes, a motor swap can bring it back to life.
Important safety note: Always unplug the unit before starting. If you’re not comfortable with mains-powered repairs, consider a certified repair shop. This is an educational guide — attempt at your own risk.

Torx/Phillips screwdriver set (T8/T9/T10 commonly)
Small flat pry tools / spudger
Needle-nose pliers
Multimeter (to check continuity before/after - not mandatory)
Replacement motor (genuine Dyson HP01 motor or compatible OEM — confirm part number for your unit)
Small container for screws & springs
Lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol (cleaning contacts)
Troubleshooting tips
If the rotor does not spin freely after install, double-check seating and that the fan blades are not rubbing the shroud.
If unit powers but motor stalls, verify connectors and measure voltage at motor leads (use caution).
When reassembling, make sure the spring’s hooked end seats in the small notch on the chassis — misplacement here will prevent the top from locking correctly.
