The History of Tanoboase: The Owners of Techiman (Explained in Twi)

The royal clan of Tanoboase belongs to the Ekouna Clan. The family was part of the Bono people that situated in the Amowi caves for safety upon their arrival from the Mossi land. When the Bonohene and the people came from the Amowi caves and settled at Manso the family of Tanoboase including Nana Amoa Sanka, Nana Koko Tipo, Nana Takyi Firi and Afia Ankomaa and also came to settle at the present day Tanoboase.
Nana Takyi Firi was a great hunter among the Bono hunters. The god they came to meet on the land was called TAA KORA. The drums that they played for Taa Kora always dispersed the animals in the feed forest making hunting expeditions very difficult.
As a result Nana Takyi Firi decided to move forward to Tuobodom. At tuobodom there was a god called TWUMPRO. The drums played for god also dispersed the animals in the forest. Therefore Nana Firi decided to move forward to the present day Takyiman. The Descendants of this family forms part of Takyiman KRONTIRI family.
Nana Afia Ankomaa married a man called Amadu and gave birth to Nana Fosu Aduawoma, Nana Amoa Kwaku,Nana Gyarko, Nana Yaa Takyiwaa and Nana Nsowaa. Amadu the one that Afia Ankomaa married had a wife called Nana Ameyaa who was a priestess to a god called TAA KWASI KREMO. Ameyaa also gave birth to Nana Twumpuduo, Nana Kofi Duro and Okomfuor Yaa Bour. Nana Ameyaa’s family also referred to as HYIEWU family.
When the royal family got settled in the present day Tanoboase one of the ancestors by the name Nana Afia Ankomaa was possessed by a deity. The deity spiritually led her to the mountain, where she mentioned it name as BREMPONG TAA KORA the father of all the TANO gODS.
During this period monkeys were all over the mountain, and served as protection for Taa Kora god. It was a taboo to kill any of these animals. In this view the land (about 131 hectares) surrounding the mountain was deemed sacred.
In those days people sake shelter under mountains hence the name Tanoboase. The name “ TANOBOASE “ means under the TANO Mountains.
