Colorado Summer 2023 Mountain Creek Fishing - Brook Trout and Moose Encounters

I took a 4wt flyrod and a handful of terrestrials out to Colorado this summer (2023) when my wife and I traveled there for vacation. I knew she'd want some down time and which would allow me to sneak away. Not that she'd care anyway but good opportunity to explore some mountain creeks.

There were 2-3 small creeks pretty close to where we were staying. Close enough I could be on them in 10 minutes. When she wanted to relax I was out the door. I spent a few evenings fishing these tiny rivers hoping to find a few cutthroat since we don't have them in Michigan. I ended up only catching brook trout but it was still a blast. I love walking up a small creek fishing to eager willing fish, surrounded by mountains and not a soul around. It's one of my favorite things to do.

One evening I was working up a creek and found myself about 15 feet from a bull moose. I never saw it until it was insanely close. Considering it's not a common "run in" our state I didn't stick around. I slowly back out and gave him his space.
