In this episode of Roam Elevated, we dive deep into the rugged wilderness of Vancouver Island, battling heavy fog, relentless rain, and some seriously challenging trails. Join us as we explore the west side of the island, with plans to visit the legendary Lonely Doug tree. But as always, the journey is full of unexpected twists and turns.

We couldn’t resist veering off onto dirt roads that called to our adventurous spirits. Some led to dead ends or gates, while others took us deep into the spooky, fog-covered forest—where we imagined fairies, gnomes, and even Bigfoot might be lurking. Despite the eerie atmosphere, we didn’t find anything out of the ordinary, except for a makeshift shooting range and some seriously tough trails.

Navigating through soft ground and over downed trees, we found ourselves on a narrow, seldom-used path that forced us to backtrack the entire way we came, including a nerve-wracking washout. With no room to turn around, it was a test of skill and patience.

The challenges didn’t stop there. We climbed steep roads into worsening weather, only to find potential camp spots too windy and misty for comfort. After being stopped by a cell tower blocking the trail and encountering landslides, boulders, and few camping options, we finally found a spot to rest—but not before battling biting black flies and a feeling of defeat.

This episode is packed with the real grit of overlanding—facing obstacles, making tough decisions, and pushing through when the odds are against you. We hope you enjoy the ride and that it inspires you to tackle your own adventures, no matter the challenges.
