Dr. Sarah Churchwell is Chair of Public Understanding of the Humanities and Professor of American Literature at the School of Advanced Study, University London.
Churchwell’s research explores American myth, early 20th century language and literature, and rhetorical turns of phrase - like “America First” and “The American Dream.” She has emerged as a go-to voice as Americans reckon with their complicated history.
She is the author of Behold America: The Entangled History of American First and the American Dream (2018) and Careless People: Murder, Mayhem, and the Invention of the Great Gatsby (2013).
