the third movement of our trio sonata is a fuga--a fugue! fugues are a type of music characterized by multiple entrances of the same tune in different instruments, and the tune's reappearance throughout the music can create inventive and exciting interactions between the instruments, almost like a spirited conversation. here, you can hear the tune first from gabe on violin, and then alex joins the fun on their violin with the same tune, but starting on a different pitch, while gabe plays new musical ideas. then the bass section--cello, theorbo, and harpsichord--enters with the tune too. listen for all the clever ways mr. richter incorporates the initial tune into his fugue!
