Favor
The concept of favor is deeply rooted in biblical teachings. It is the divine kindness shown to humanity, a blessing that is not earned but rather given out of God's abundant love. Favor is not something you can buy or work for, it's a gift. It's a special privilege or right granted or conceded. It is something given freely, without deserving and not necessarily reciprocated.
The dictionary defines favor as an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual. In life, we often seek favor in the eyes of those who are in positions of power or influence. We seek to be liked, to be chosen, to be blessed. But the truth is, the most profound favor we can ever receive comes not from man, but from God.
Psalms 102:13
Our anchor scripture for today's sermon is Psalms 102:13. It reads, "You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come." This verse speaks of a time of favor, a divinely appointed time when God's compassion and kindness overflow towards His people.
God's favor is not just about an individual, it's about His people. It's a divine endorsement that sets His people apart. It is a seal, a mark of divine approval. When you are favored by God, you are distinguished among many. You are set apart for greatness. You are marked for victory. You are destined for success.
As we continue in this service, may we become more aware of God's favor in our lives. May we understand that God's favor is not earned, it's received. And may we strive to live in a manner that reflects the favor of God, not just for our own benefit but for the benefit of those around us.
