Classic Deaf Joke: The Hearing Hitchhiker

A deaf guy is driving down the highway and turns up the radio. After a while, he sees a hitchhiker on the side of the road who has his thumb out. As the hitchhiker gets closer, the driver pulls over and waits for the hitchhiker to run up to the window. The hitchhiker starts speaking and the driver stops him, gesturing that he is deaf and asks him if he wants to join. The hitchhiker understands immediately and gestures, yes. The driver invites him in and the hitchhiker gets into the car. He puts on his seat belt as the driver pulls back onto the highway. The driver turns up the radio and the hitchhiker winces, thinking to himself that it's not his style in music. The driver suddenly decides to speed up and the hitchhiker panics because they're going too fast, he holds on for dear life. Suddenly, the driver sees blue and red flashing lights in the rear view mirror and slows down. He also turns down the radio and pulls over to the side of the road. He tells the hitchhiker not to worry. The driver watches in the side mirror as the cop gets out of his car. The cop hikes up his pants and twirls his mustache as he walks over to the car. The cop knocks on the window and the driver rolls down the window. The cop starts immediately speaking with his heavy mustache, but the driver gestures that he is deaf. The cop understands immediately, sighs and gestures to the driver, "you go too fast, don't do that, slow down." The driver gestures, "okay." The cop hikes up his pants and walks back to his car. The driver looks over at the hitchhiker and gestures, "that's it, cool right?" The hitchhiker is very impressed. The driver pulls back to the road and soon he feels sleepy. His eyes are getting tired. The hitchhiker notices and gestures that they should switch. The hitchhiker is willing to drive while the driver sleeps. The driver agrees and pulls back over to the road. The hitchhiker switches seats with the driver. The driver immediately reclines his seat back and goes to sleep. The hitchhiker pulls back onto the road and turns up the radio. Then decides to turn to a channel that actually has his type in music. He gets bored and decides why not? He speeds up really fast. The driver doesn't feel a thing as he sleeps. Suddenly, there's blue and red flashing lights in the rear view mirror. The hitchhiker immediately slows down and pulls over as he turns down the radio. He watches the cop in the side mirror as he gets out of the car. The cop gets out of the car, hikes up his pants and flips his hair around. He walks over to the car and he knocks on the window. The hitchhiker rolls down his window and waits. The cop starts rapidly speaking and the hitchhiker stops him, gesturing that he is deaf. The cop is surprised and replies in sign, "Oh you're deaf? Fine. My parents are deaf, so I know sign too. What's up?" The hitchhiker panics and wakes up the sleeping deaf driver next to him. -Transcript by Kristen Piersa
